History of Nairn Scouts

Nairn Scouts were one of the first groups formed after Sir Baden-Powells camp at Brown Sea Island.

Formed in the early summer of 1908 by a group of boys who had all read the Scout magazine. They approached the local schoolmaster Mr James Riach to to take control of the Troop. Mr Riach served as the Scoutmaster until 1915, when the Troop had to close due the the First World War.

The Troop returned in May 1921 under the guidance of Admiral Sir Heathcote Grant from Boath (East of Nairn).

The group has continued since then, in 1939 they moved to a hut in the grounds of Millbank Primary School which was gifted to the group from Fort George. This was demolished when it fell beyond economical repair.

The Scout Group in Nairn also boasted a Sea Scout section from 1935 to 1995 which had its Headquarters at the harbour.
